Tunturi-Ilmailijat in a nutshell
Tunturi-Ilmailijat was founded in 17.12.1962, so the club had its 60th birthday in 2022. At first the operation was glider flying, but nowadays the main operation is powered flying with three single engine aircraft (OH-CAK Cessna 172N Skyhawk II, OH-CSN Cessna 180 Skywagon and OH-PEP Piper PA-18-95 Super Cub). There are no skydiving, gliding or ultralight aircraft operation in the club. Only a few RC-model aircraft hobbyists and paragliders or hang-gliders.
OH-CAK is mainly used for PPL(A) training flights, SAR- and forest fire surveillance flights and hobby flights. OH-CSN has floats in the summer and in the winter it's equipped with skis, so it's our pure bush flying aircraft. OH-PEP has wheels in the summer and skis in the winter.
The club has around 80 members all over Finland and the main event every spring is so called Suksilentoleiri (Ski-in), where skiplanes all around Finland gather in Ivalo to have some fun with winter bush flying.
